  • The winds moving at the speed of up to 40k per hour will trigger larger-than-usual waves in the Indian Ocean and also hit some southern parts of Lake Tanganyika.

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a warning that strong winds are expected to affect marine and other activities along the coastline.

The winds moving at the speed of up to 40k per hour will trigger larger-than-usual waves in the Indian Ocean and also hit some southern parts of Lake Tanganyika.

The projected five-day weather pattern is anticipated to disrupt various economic activities, particularly those dependent on the coastline and maritime operations from Monday, the weather agency said in a statement on Sunday.

"The impact is expected on some economic activities like fishing and maritime transport,” TMA stated.

The strong winds and large waves exceeding two meters will affect Lindi, Mtwara, Tanga, Pwani, Mafia, and the islands of Unguja and Pemba.

Additionally, the southern part of Lake Tanganyika which are projected to be affected include the regions of Katavi, Rukwa, Nyasa, Ruvuma, and Njombe, TMA said.

Residents are advised to take precautionary measures to minimize potential damage and ensure safety, it said, adding that cancellation of activities and localised damage to marine infrastructure are expected.
