Dar es Salaam. As Ugandan technician Jackson Mayanja delivered his second victory for Simba Sports Club, Azam FC reclaimed the top position after beating Mgambo Shooting in a thrilling match held at the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga yesterday.

Simba SC won 2-0 against JKT Ruvu at the National Stadium to collect 33 points from 15 matches while Azam FC’s 2-1 victory saw them to the top position with 39 points from 15 matches.

Mayanja’s first victory was against Mtibwa Sugar last Saturday in another tough encounter held at the same venue.

The Msimbazi Street side earned their goals through a penalty by Hamis Kiiza in the 53rd. The match referee Martin Saanya from Morogoro ruled the penalty after JKT Ruvu’s Michael Aidan fouled Danny Lyanga.

JKT Ruvu struggled to find an equaliser, but a strong Simba SC defense under Juuko Murshid and Justice Majabvi celeared all the dangerous balls.

As the army team struggled to equalise, Lyanga scored the second goal in the 66th minute after beating the JKT Ruvu defense, and the goalkeeper, Hamis Seif.

Mayanga commended his players for the victory that has left them in the third position.

The Ugandan manager said the team had improved and would continue to rectify their mistakes to win the Tanzania Mainland title.

“We have done well in the match, my players are improving, we are working on mistakes and very soon we will be the team to beat for the title,” said Mayanga.

In Tanga, Azam’s overlapping defender Shomari Kapombe scored two goals to get his team back to the top of the league.

Mgambo Shooting was the first to score in the 17 th minute through Boli Shaibi, following a perfect pass from Aziz Gilla.

Kapombe equalised in the 22nd after utilising a rebound from John Bocco’s shot before scoring the second goal in the 37th minute.
