Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has collected Sh56.31 billion during the launch of its fundraising drive ahead of the 2025 General Election.
In addition to the funds already collected in cash, pledges worth Sh30.2 billion have been made.
The amount was announced by CCM Secretary General Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi at the close of the high-profile event held in Dar es Salaam on August 12, 2024.
The party has set a target of Sh100 billion, to be raised through contributions from members and non-members.
Dr Nchimbi said the campaign will run until October 27, 2025, the last day of political rallies before voting on October 29. The launch was officiated by CCM chairperson and President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
President Samia’s call for unity
In her remarks, President Hassan thanked contributors, noting CCM’s historic role in Tanzania’s leadership. She stressed that history alone cannot sustain the party, underscoring the need for unity, resources and active participation.
“A party needs to be maintained, to be fuelled — just like a car without fuel cannot move,” she said. “Maintaining CCM means unity in heart, mind and action, as well as providing resources, just as we have done today.”
She added that the contributions would enable CCM to begin activities aimed at seeking another mandate to lead the country, and described the response as proof that the party will be built by its members.
“The building of this party is the responsibility of all of us — members inside and outside Tanzania. Even our members in the diaspora are requesting account details to contribute,” she said.

President Hassan personally donated Sh100 million, while Zanzibar President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi gave Sh50 million.
