Dar es Salaam. As the Simba SC leadership struggle to fill the gap left by attacking midfielder Clatous Chama, they now face the tough task of convincing their defensive midfielder, Sadio Kanoute, to remain with the club.
Recently, negotiations between Simba and Chama over the extension of his contract failed to bear fruit as there are reports that the Zambian has already joined their traditional rivals, Young Africans (Yanga).
This development has upset some Simba members and fans who believe that Chama is still vital for the club.
There are reports that Kanoute from Mali has requested to leave the club.
The Malian player joined Simba in the 2021/2022 season from Al-Ahli Benghazi of Libya, which had bought him from Stade Malien.
He has made a significant contribution to Simba in both domestic and international matches.
Despite normally playing in the midfield, Kanoute has managed to score several important goals for the Msimbazi Street giants, becoming one of their dependable players.
However, he has yet to win medals in both the Tanzania Mainland Premier League and the CRDB Federation Cup since joining Simba.
However, Kanute is proud of winning the Community Shield medal early in the 2023/2024 season, as well as clinching the Union League Championship that involved four teams.

“There is still an issue with Kanoute to stay at Simba. He has requested to leave and has been insisting on it. The management has talked to him, but he is still firm on his decision. At this point, it is almost certain he will leave, and the chances of him staying are very slim,” the source said.
Simba's Information and Communications Manager, Ahmed Ally, confirmed that Kanoute has requested to leave, but the management is yet decide on his matter.
"It is true we are in discussions with the player, and he is asking for a new challenge. However, no agreement has been reached on whether he should leave or not." said Ally.
