Dar es Salaam. Goals scored by Abdul Suleiman Sopu and Feisal “Fei Toto” Salum have enabled Azam FC to qualify for the CRDB Federation Cup final, which is set to take place on June 2 at the Tanzanite Stadium in Manyara Region.

Sopu, who joined Azam FC from Coastal Union in the 2022/2023 season, scored the opener via a penalty in the 41st minute and the second goal in the 79th minute.

Sopu also made an assist in Feisal Salum's goal in the 70th minute in the encounter held at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza Region.

With the victory, Azam FC now await the winners of the match between Yanga and Ihefu FC, which will be played on May 19, 2024, at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha region.

This is the fourth time Azam FC have qualified for the final of the CRDB Federation Cup, whose winners will represent the country in the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Yanga are the defending champion of the cup, having won last season over Coastal Union on 4-1 penalty shootouts following a 3-3 draw after 120 minutes.

Both teams started by attacking in turns in the match officiated by renowned referee Ahmed Arajiga.

Azam FC appeared to have the chance of emerging victorious since the start of the encounter as they created several clear scoring chances, but their players missed them.

Coastal Union showed strong resistance and kept Azam FC at bay while spending much time defending in an exciting match.

Azam FC assistant coach Youssouph Dabo commended his players for the brilliant performances in the encounter and they now turn focus to the league matches.

“I commend my players for the victory. We managed to command the game in the first half, but we failed to score more goals. However, what is important is to win a game, which we did, and my players deserve compliments," said Dabo.

The tactician added that the match was very tough despite emerging the victorious.

For his part, Coastal Union head coach David Ouma admitted the defeat, saying his players lacked concentration to allow Azam FC to win the encounter.
