Azam, who are sharing the spoil with Dar es Salaam Young Africans in the Mainland Vodacom Premier League, were invited to Zambia in a special tournament to gauge skills ahead of their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“We are extremely happy with the tour towards building our team ahead of our CAF assignments,” Saad Kawemba, who is the club’s chief executive officer was quoted as saying.

He said their hosts, Zambia’s Zesco United, Zanaco and Zimbabwean Chicken Inn have all shown interest to come to Tanzania for similar purposes, to train for their preparations in their CAF Club tournaments.Azam have managed to play in the today’s final after toping all teams with four points, alongside Zanaco..

In their opening match, they held Zesco United to a 1-1 all draw before thrashing Chicken Inn 3-1.The former Mainland champions will play South Africa’s Bidvest Wits in first leg of CAF Confederation Cup.

The club’s English coach, Stewart Hall has said that he believes their Zambian tour will help them to prepare well for their tie against the South African side, Wits.Azam FC’s Mainland Premier league matches were postponed because of the tour.
