Dar es Salaam. The CRDB Federation Cup has reached its decisive stage, with eight teams securing spots in the quarter-finals, all vying for a coveted ticket to represent Tanzania in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Among the remaining contenders, only big guns Yanga SC and Simba SC have lifted the trophy since the tournament’s revival in the 2015-16 season, following a 13-year hiatus.

This dominance sets the stage for an intriguing challenge, as other teams, such as Singida Black Stars and Pamba Jiji FC aim to break the record and claim their first title.

The quarter finalists include Singida Black Stars, who edged out KMC FC 1-0, JKT Tanzania, who thrashed Mbeya Kwanza 3-0, and Kagera Sugar, who triumphed over Tabora United 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Simba SC booked their spot after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Bigman FC, while Yanga SC dispatched Songea United 2-0. Pamba Jiji progressed with a 1-0 victory over Mashujaa FC, Mbeya City eliminated Mtibwa Sugar 2-1, and Stand United saw off Katavi champions Giraffe Academy 3-1, making them one of only two Championship sides left in the competition, alongside Pamba Jiji.

Pamba Jiji FC head coach Fredy “Minziro” Felix expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to challenge the favorites, commending his players for their discipline and determination.

With Yanga leading the all-time winners' list with four titles, followed by Simba with three and Azam FC once , the big question remains: Can an underdog rise to the occasion and disrupt the dominance of Tanzania’s football giants, or will Yanga and Simba extend their reign?
