Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s national football team, the Taifa Stars, are gearing up for a crucial quarterfinal match against Morocco in the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The match will take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on tomorrow, 22 August 2025 starting at 8pm East African Time, with the winner advancing to the knockout stage.
Team captain Dickoson Job has assured fans that the squad is fully prepared for the challenge.
Speaking ahead of the match, Job said that his players are not intimidated by Morocco’s high standard of play, noting that the team has closely analyzed their opponents since the beginning of the tournament.
“We are ready and we know what Tanzanians expect from us. We are playing against a tough team, but we have studied them from the start and understand both their strengths and weaknesses. We promise to give our best on the pitch,” said Job.
Focused and determined
Job stressed the importance of concentration, discipline, and exploiting every opportunity.
With a spot in the semifinals at stake, he acknowledged that the match would be challenging but emphasized the team’s determination to perform. “Every player is focused, and we know the stakes are high.
A single mistake can cost us, so we are prepared mentally and physically to fight for victory,” Job added.
Balanced tactical approach
Head coach Hemed Suleiman outlined the tactical approach the team plans to take, highlighting a combination of defensive solidity and attacking efficiency.
Suleiman pointed to the group stage as evidence of the team’s balanced play, noting that Tanzania scored five goals while conceding just one. “We will approach this match with both defensive and attacking strategies to ensure we can secure a win.
The players have trained well and are ready. We must make the most of every scoring chance while maintaining a strong defensive shape,” said Suleiman.
The coach also called on Tanzanian fans to turn out in large numbers to support the team. “Our fans are the 12th player. Their support will be crucial in motivating the players and helping us push for victory. I urge all Tanzanians to come and cheer for their team,” he added.
Regional quarterfinal action
While all eyes in Tanzania will be on the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, other CHAN quarterfinal fixtures are also generating excitement across the region. In Nairobi, Kenya’s Harambee Stars will face Madagascar at the Moi International Sports Centre, with kickoff scheduled for 5pm.
