Dar es Salaam. The Minister of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Palamagamba Kabudi, has officially dissolved the leadership of the Tanzania Professional Boxing Regulatory Commission (TPBRC) following an investigation into multiple allegations raised by boxing stakeholders.
According to a statement issued today, March 6, 2025, to ensure transparency and justice, the Minister formed a special investigative committee on May 8, 2024, to examine the complaints and verify their authenticity.
The statement said that after an extensive review, the committee submitted its findings, which confirmed the allegations and highlighted significant operational shortcomings within the commission's leadership.
According to the report, the TPBRC leadership was found to have engaged in an abuse of power, violating national laws and the body's 2018 constitution.
Additionally, the committee identified serious breaches of good governance principles, particularly in resource management and the overall administration of the commission.
Furthermore, the investigation revealed financial mismanagement and non-compliance with national regulations, leading to concerns about the accountability and transparency of the commission’s financial operations.
The findings also highlighted a pattern of misconduct that undermined the integrity of the organization.
In response to these revelations, the Minister has directed that legal action be taken against the officials responsible for the mismanagement.
The decision aims to serve as a warning to both current and future leaders of sports organizations, emphasizing the importance of ethical leadership and adherence to governance standards.
“This announcement serves as a reminder to leaders of sports organizations and institutions that the government upholds principles of good governance and the rule of law in all entities under its jurisdiction.
The government remains committed to ensuring accountability and professionalism in the management of sports organizations,” the statement read.
