Dar es Salaam. Simba SC’s hopes in the CAF Confederation Cup have been boosted after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) cleared attacking midfielder Elie Mpanzu to feature in their remaining group stage matches.
The confirmation came after Simba finalized all player registration requirements, as revealed by the club’s media manager, Ahmed Ally.
Mpanzu, who has already played in three Mainland Tanzania Premier League matches, is now eligible to face CS Sfaxien on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 7pm East Africa Time and any subsequent matches, depending on the choice of head coach Fadlu Davids.
“This is a morale boost and good news for Simba members and fans,” said Ally. “Mpanzu’s availability strengthens our squad for the crucial matches ahead.”
Simba’s position in the group
Simba currently sit third in Group A with six points from three matches, having won two and lost one.
The Msimbazi Street giants face a must-win clash against Tunisian side CS Sfaxien, who are bottom of the group without a single point.
CS Sfaxien will be eager to avenge their 2-1 defeat in the first-leg encounter at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Meanwhile, the other teams in the group, CS Constantine of Algeria and Bravos do Maquis of Angola, also have six points each.
They face off in Algiers today, setting up a highly competitive scenario as all teams strive for the top spots in the group.
Ally expressed confidence in Simba’s preparation and team morale ahead of Sunday’s crucial encounter.
“Our players are in high spirits and ready for the match, which we know will be one of the toughest in the group stage,” said Ally.
He stressed the importance of the game, noting that the club has taken all necessary measures to ensure a strong performance.
“We are fully aware of the significance of this match and are determined to deliver a solid result. The players’ focus and commitment to success are evident,” he added.
