Dar es Salaam. The Rotary Club of Bahari – Dar es Salaam will host its highly anticipated 15th Annual Charity Golf Tournament this Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the prestigious Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club.

The flagship event will bring together golfers, corporate sponsors, and community leaders, according to club president Sameer Santosh. Santosh said the aim of the tournament is to raise funds for projects that transform lives across Tanzania.

“We golf not just for sport, but to give hope. The funds raised here transform into ambulances that save lives, scholarships that open doors, and projects that change communities for generations,” he said.

For the past 15 years, the Bahari Rotary Charity Golf Tournament has been a cornerstone of Tanzania’s sporting and philanthropic calendar. Proven impact in past editions, Club Public Relations Director, Bakari Machumu, said the event is renowned for turning competitive spirit into tangible community benefits — from improving healthcare to expanding education and promoting environmental protection.

He noted that last year’s tournament delivered notable results: the club’s STEM Bootcamps in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar reached over 800 students, the You and Me for Her Cervical Cancer Awareness Project mobilised more than 40 volunteers, and Rotary Family Health Day provided over 10,000 health services to 1,022 community members.

Environmental initiatives included planting 1,360 trees at the University of Dar es Salaam, while a Sh5 million Rotary Water Scholarship funded a Master’s degree in Water and Sanitation.

Machumu said this year’s tournament will support such as Introducing motorbike ambulances in partnership with TVS to serve over 5,000 mothers and newborns annually.

Others are training primary school teachers to boost STEM education through Rotaractor-led programs, expanding tree planting campaigns for climate action in schools and communities.

Also in the list is installing an incinerator at Tuangoma Primary School to improve sanitation for over 3,000 students, including 35 with disabilities.

The tournament promises a full day of competitive action with attractive prizes. The grand prize is a golf getaway to Dubai, including three return tickets, accommodation, and two rounds of golf.

A Toyota car, courtesy of Minet Tanzania, awaits any golfer who hits a hole-in-one. Category winners will be recognised, and surprise prizes will keep both players and spectators engaged.

Former club president, Fred Laizer, confirmed that more than 80 golfers have already registered for the event.

He added that the tournament’s success is made possible by the generosity of its sponsors, whose contributions turn fundraising into real-world impact.
