Dar es Salaam. After a narrow 1-0 victory against Stellenbosch FC of South Africa last Sunday, Simba SC players have vowed to maintain their winning momentum in the return leg and secure qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup final.
The Msimbazi Street giants will face Stellenbosch FC on April 27 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa.
Simba need only a draw to advance to the final of the prestigious continental competition for the first time in their history.
Despite the victory at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, Simba players and fans were left with mixed feelings due to the slim margin, especially after the team failed to capitalize on numerous clear scoring opportunities during the match.
Simba captain Mohammed “Tshabalala” Hussein expressed confidence ahead of the decisive encounter, insisting that the team is determined to win again—even away from home.
“We urge our fans and members to continue supporting us. Yes, we won 1-0 at home, but we are confident that we can do it again in South Africa,” said Tshabalala.
“We believe we can win anywhere, including away from home. That is what we are going to prove in South Africa. We promise our fans and members that we will not let them down.”
Another Simba player, defender Che Malone Fondoh, also assured fans that the team is fully prepared and focused on securing their place in the final despite the tough task ahead.
“We promise to give our best in the return leg and book our spot in the final. Stellenbosch FC is a strong side, but we are ready to stop them on their own turf and progress,” said Fondoh.
Simba’s attacking midfielder and winger, Elie Mpanzu, echoed similar sentiments.
The DR Congo international, who joined the club during the mid-season transfer window from AS Vita, has been a standout performer in Simba’s continental campaign.
He scored in the 2-0 victory over Al Masry in the quarterfinals and played a key role in the first leg against Stellenbosch.
“We’re not just dreaming about the final—we are working for it. It’s about effort, unity, and intelligence on the pitch. We have to remind ourselves every minute that we need this more than our opponents,” said Mpanzu.
He added that despite Stellenbosch FC's strong home record, Simba must stay focused and play with intensity from the first whistle.
“They haven’t lost at home in this tournament, so we need to dominate possession, control the pace, and hit them early. One goal could shatter their morale,” said Mpanzu.
With confidence soaring and the final just one step away, Simba's players are focused on making history.
