Yanga and Simba may clash twice within 11 days in June

What you need to know:

  • Simba are navigating a congested 49-day schedule while remaining in contention for three major titles: the Mainland Tanzania Premier League, the CRDB Federation Cup, and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has announced that traditional rivals Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba will meet on June 15 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The match has been rescheduled after the previously set date of March 8 was postponed. According to the new fixture, Yanga and Simba could face each other twice in just 11 days this season.

This is because the CRDB Federation Cup final is scheduled to take place between June 26 and 28, just a few days after the Mainland Premier League concludes on June 22.

Yanga are set to face JKT Tanzania in the CRDB Federation Cup semifinals at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga, while Simba will take on Singida Black Stars at the Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium in Manyara.

If both teams win their respective semifinal matches, they will meet again in the final of the competition between June 26 and 28.

Simba head coach Fadlu Davids acknowledged the demanding schedule but expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness.

“It’s not easy to play so many matches in such a short period, but that’s the nature of the fixture. We’ll need to rotate players to manage fatigue and stay competitive,” said Davids. “The key is to perform well and finish the season strongly.”

Simba face tight schedule

Simba are navigating a congested 49-day schedule while remaining in contention for three major titles: the Mainland Tanzania Premier League, the CRDB Federation Cup, and the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Msimbazi Street giants are scheduled to play 10 critical matches that could define their season.

Remarkably, six of those matches will be high-stakes encounters against just three teams.

The stretch begins with two CAF Confederation Cup final matches against Morocco’s RS Berkane—first on May 17 in Morocco, followed by the return leg in Dar es Salaam on May 25, 2025.

Simba will then face Singida Black Stars twice in quick succession—first in the league on May 28, just three days after the CAF final second leg, and again on May 31 in the CRDB Federation Cup semifinal.

These two matches could determine Simba’s fate in two of the three competitions. A loss in the Federation Cup semifinal would end their hopes of lifting that trophy this season.

Additionally, if they fail to win the league even if Yanga reverse their decision regarding derby participation and Simba win all their remaining matches, they could still fall short of the title.
