Yanga appoints German coach Sead Ramovic as replacement for Miguel Gamondi

German coach Sead Ramovic

What you need to know:

  • Ramovic, who had started the 2024-25 season with South African side TS Galaxy, had a difficult spell at the club, with results failing to meet expectations.

Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) has appointed German coach Sead Ramovic as the new head coach, replacing Argentine Miguel Gamondi, who was dismissed after a disappointing run of results in the NBC Premier League.

The decision to part ways with Gamondi came just hours before the announcement of Ramovic’s appointment.

Gamondi, who had joined the club in 2023, was under intense scrutiny following a series of underwhelming performances, including two consecutive defeats that left the team’s prospects hanging in the balance.

With high expectations surrounding Yanga's ambitions in both domestic and continental competitions, the club's management felt a change was necessary to turn things around.

Ramovic, who had started the 2024-25 season with South African side TS Galaxy, had a difficult spell at the club, with results failing to meet expectations.

However, his appointment at Yanga is seen as a fresh start for the club, which is eager to regain its competitive edge. The 45-year-old coach, who previously managed TS Galaxy for almost three years, is now tasked with the challenge of restoring the team’s form and leading them to success.

Ramovic arrived in Dar es Salaam quietly two nights ago and held discussions with Yanga officials before being taken to a hotel in the city to finalize his contract.

The club confirmed his arrival via social media, adding that Ramovic’s assistant will also join the team shortly to replace Moussa Ndaw, who was also dismissed alongside Gamondi.

A former goalkeeper with German Bundesliga clubs VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach, Ramovic brings European experience to Yanga, although his coaching career in Africa has yet to produce significant silverware.

Known for his preference for the 4-2-3-1 formation, Ramovic's style aligns with the tactical setup that Yanga has been using under Gamondi, which will provide some continuity as the team adapts to the new leadership.

Ramovic’s coaching career has been marked by a lengthy tenure at TS Galaxy, where he spent nearly three years, beginning in October 2021. However, his stint in South Africa was not without challenges, with the club failing to deliver the results expected of them.

Now, the focus shifts to Yanga’s future under Ramovic. The club is at a crossroads, with high hopes for both domestic glory in the Tanzanian Premier League and success in continental competitions like the CAF Champions League.

Yanga, one of East Africa’s most successful football clubs, will be counting on Ramovic’s experience in European football and his tactical knowledge to steady the ship and lead the team to trophies.

For the fans, the pressure is on. Ramovic must quickly adapt to the challenges of African football and prove himself capable of handling the immense expectations placed on him.

His appointment comes at a crucial time, and with the club’s season still very much in the balance, all eyes will be on Yanga as they look to get back on track after a turbulent start to the campaign.
