Yanga sacks head coach Miguel Gamondi after disappointing run in NBC Premier League
Dar es Salaam. Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) has announced the dismissal of head coach Angel Miguel Gamondi following a string of poor results in the NBC Premier League with two consecutive defeats against Azam and Tabora United.
The decision, which was made public on Friday, November 15, 2024, comes after two consecutive losses that have left fans and club officials deeply concerned about the team's form and prospects this season.
The Argentine coach, who took over the reins at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, had been under increasing pressure as Yanga's performances failed to meet the high expectations associated with the club's storied history and ambitious goals.
In addition to the departure of Gamondi, Yanga also confirmed the termination of the contract of Assistant Coach Moussa Ndaw, marking a complete shake-up of the club's technical staff.
The statement from the club expressed gratitude for the contributions of both coaches, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
"The management of Young Africans Sports Club has terminated the contract of the Head Coach of the first team, Angel Miguel Gamondi. Additionally, the contract of the Assistant Coach, Moussa Ndaw, has also been terminated," read the official statement. "We thank both coaches for their contributions and wish them success in their future endeavors."
Yanga's decision comes in the wake of a series of disappointing performances, particularly in high-stakes fixtures, which have led to mounting criticism of the team’s tactics, preparation, and overall progress.
Despite significant investment and a squad full of talented players, the team has struggled to win games under Gamondi's leadership this term, leaving the club's management with no choice but to make a change.
The club has wasted no time in initiating a search for a new coaching staff, with a promise to announce a replacement in the coming weeks.
"The process of recruiting new coaches for our first team has already commenced and is expected to be concluded shortly," the notice confirmed.
As Yanga prepares for a crucial stretch of fixtures in both domestic and continental competitions, the club’s management has made it clear that a fresh start is necessary to rekindle the team's title ambitions.
The timing of Gamondi’s sacking is critical, as Yanga looks to regain momentum and secure a top spot in the league and a positive start in the CAF Champions League Group Stage.
All eyes will now be on the club’s next move to appoint a capable coach who can navigate the challenges of the season and restore the team to its former glory.
