Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Mainland football giants, Young Africans (Yanga), have hit a snag in their plan to recruit Algerian tactician Kheireddine Madoui.
Reports indicate that Madoui, head coach of CS Constantine, has decided to remain with his team until the end of the season, affecting Yanga’s plans to replace their current Argentinian coach, Miguel Gamondi, whose future with the club remains uncertain.
One of the Yanga executive committee members told The Citizen yesterday that Madoui, who recently led CS Constantine to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, has chosen to fulfil his responsibilities with his team through the current league season.
“It is true that we aimed to hire Madoui, and we had initiated negotiations, reaching a favourable position. However, given the ongoing league in Algeria and the CAF Confederation Cup commitments, he decided to remain with his team for now,” said the official.
With this development, Yanga have decided to resume the search for other coaches while continuing with Gamondi, who remains under contract.
“We will continue with Gamondi for the time being, though I cannot confirm if he will stay with the team until the end of the season. It’s currently a fifty-fifty situation. It’s an open fact that Gamondi and his assistant, Moussa N’Daw, still have contracts with the team through the season’s end,” the official added.
Moallin plans
Reports suggest that Yanga are in final negotiations with former Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) head coach Abdihamid Mohamed Moallin to fill the assistant coach position.
Moallin, who previously coached Azam FC, is reportedly being considered as a replacement for the current assistant coach, Senegalese Moussa N’Daw.
According to a source, Moallin has resigned from his role at KMC and, in addition to Yanga’s interest, has plans to join TS Galaxy of South Africa.
The source noted that Yanga’s management has met with Moallin several times to discuss the potential deal, as he meets all the club’s criteria for the assistant coach position.
“We need to be very keen as we have only two weeks before we play our first group-stage CAF Champions League encounter against Al-Hilal Omdurman of Sudan on November 26 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium,” the source added.
