Dar es Salaam. Mainland Tanzania giants Young Africans (Yanga) will commence training today, November 11, 2024 ahead of their CAF Champions League clash against Al-Hilal Omdurman of Sudan on November 26, 2024.
However, the team will be without head coach Miguel Gamondi, as the club has decided to part ways with him and his assistant coach, Moussa N'Daw.
Reports received by The Citizen indicate that the decision was reached amicably, allowing both parties to separate on good terms.
With just weeks until their CAF Champions League encounter at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Yanga will now prepare under the guidance of a different technical staff.
This change comes at a critical juncture as Yanga looks to solidify their performance in the prestigious tournament.
A source close to the club commented on the coaching transition, stating: “Our team will start training tomorrow (today) ahead of the CAF Champions League encounter against Al-Hilal Omdurman of Sudan and other matches.
The training will proceed without Gamondi and Moussa, because we have already agreed to part ways.” The source emphasised that the club is actively finalising negotiations with a new coach to lead the team through the remainder of the season.
“We have not finalised the deal yet, so I cannot reveal the name of the incoming coach. Let’s wait for the official announcement,” he added.
Reports suggest that Yanga has set its sights on Kheireddine Madoui, an Algerian coach currently managing Club Sportif Constantinois (CS Constantine) in Algeria.
If confirmed, Madoui’s appointment would bring extensive experience and strategic acumen to the team, which could be pivotal in navigating the challenges of the CAF Champions League and domestic competitions.
Madoui’s coaching career includes significant achievements in Algerian and North African football, making him a promising candidate to lead Yanga in their quest for success.
Gamondi, who joined Yanga in June 2023, took over from Tunisian coach Nesreddine Nabi and was tasked with guiding the club to further victories on the continental stage.
Although his tenure was relatively short, Gamondi contributed to Yanga's preparations in both the domestic league and international competitions, laying a foundation for future successes.
However, the need for alignment in coaching philosophy and strategy likely played a role in the mutual decision to part ways.
