Yanga’s head coach Hamdi joins Egypt’s Ismaily

What you need to know:

  • In less than half a season, Hamdi transformed Yanga into an unstoppable force. His tactical acumen, discipline, and deep understanding of the modern game galvanized the squad, restoring confidence and belief among players and fans alike.

Dar es Salaam. In a dramatic twist to Yanga SC’s fairytale season, head coach Miloud Hamdi has officially departed the club to join Egyptian Premier League outfit Ismaily SC.

The Algerian tactician, who arrived in February 2025, leaves behind a golden legacy after guiding Yanga to a historic treble in just five months.

Hamdi’s exit marks the end of a highly successful chapter for the Jangwani-based side, who lifted the Muungano Cup, the NBC Premier League title, and the CRDB Federation Cup under his stewardship. His short but impactful tenure at Yanga will be remembered as one of the most dominant displays in the club’s illustrious history.

From Singida Black Stars to treble glory

Hamdi’s journey to the Yanga hot seat was nothing short of eventful. He joined the Tanzanian giants on February 4, 2025, after a brief, non-competitive stint at Singida Black Stars, where he never coached a single official match. His arrival followed the departure of Sead Ramović, who left to take over at Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.

In less than half a season, Hamdi transformed Yanga into an unstoppable force. His tactical acumen, discipline, and deep understanding of the modern game galvanized the squad, restoring confidence and belief among players and fans alike.

A Global football mindset

Born on June 1, 1971, Hamdi brings with him a rich coaching résumé that spans Europe, Africa, and Asia. Before his Tanzanian adventure, he held key positions at Al-Khalidiya SC in Bahrain, JS Kabylie, CS Constantine, and USM Alger in Algeria. He also enjoyed spells in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and France with clubs like Al-Salmiya, Al-Ettifaq U-23, Atlético Marseille, and ES Vitrolles.

Notably, he guided USM Alger to the CAF Champions League final in 2015-16 and clinched the Algerian Ligue 1 title in the same campaign — feats that reinforced his status as a top-tier tactician on the continent.

Hamdi holds a UEFA A Coaching Licence and a Football Coaching Diploma from the French Football Federation, making him one of the most qualified coaches to have worked in Tanzanian football. His fluency in English, French, Arabic, and Italian further enhanced his ability to connect with players from diverse backgrounds.
