Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian football giants Young Africans (Yanga SC) have wrapped up their spectacular 2024/2025 season in style, clinching their fifth trophy of the campaign by defeating Singida Black Stars 2-0 to lift the CRDB Bank Federation Cup at the vibrant New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
This emphatic victory marks yet another golden chapter in Yanga’s historic run, solidifying their dominance in both domestic and regional football.
Abuya and Mzize seal the deal
Yanga’s goals were netted by the in-form Duke Abuya and rising star Clement Mzize, both of whom delivered when it mattered most.
Abuya broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, pouncing on a rebound after Singida goalkeeper Amas Obasogie failed to deal with a low cross from Israel Mwenda.
It was Abuya’s third goal in this year’s Federation Cup, a testament to his vital role throughout the competition.
Just five minutes into the second half, Mzize doubled the lead, calmly finishing off a clever pass from Maxi Nzengeli to notch his second goal of the tournament.
That strike silenced the Singida defence and effectively sealed the title for the Jangwani side.
Tensions, cards, and control
Referee Ahmed Arajiga had a busy evening managing a match filled with tough tackles and rising tempers.
Yellow cards were shown to Abuya and Khalid Aucho, while Singida’s Jonathan Sowah was sent off in the 86th minute after receiving a second booking.
Despite several attempts by Singida to mount a comeback, Yanga’s backline and goalkeeper Djigui Diarra stood tall to secure the clean sheet and a sweet ending to a spectacular season.
Mzize Shines bright
Young striker Clement Mzize was deservedly named Man of the Match, walking away with a Sh2 million cheque and cementing his place among Yanga’s key contributors this season.
