Dar es Salaam. Football giants Young Africans (Yanga) will be awarded their 30th Tanzania Mainland trophy on May 25 at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam after their match against Tabora United.
Earlier, Yanga proposed to be awarded their trophy in Dodoma on May 22 after the encounter against Dodoma Jiji.
On the day, Yanga will also be awarded Sh100 million from the sponsor for clinching the title and Sh500 million from Azam Media Limited due to a television right contract on showing the league matches live.
The Jangwani Street giants submitted a letter of proposal to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) concerning the title issue.
In their proposal, Yanga also requested TFF and TPLB to play their match upcountry against Tabora United with the aim of celebrating their 30th trophy.
According to a source within the club, Yanga’s request was, however, not accepted due to various technical reasons as well as the plans of the league’s main sponsor, NBC Bank.
The source said NBC Bank would host a special occasion for Yanga after their match against Tabora United to kick off at 4pm.
However, TPLB Information officer Karim Boimanda said he was not aware if Yanga had requested to be awarded the Tanzania Mainland Premier League trophy in Dodoma.
“I am not aware of the matter, Yanga are our stakeholders and we have been communicating each other on various league issues, so if there is any information, we will share with the public,” said Boimanda.
Meanwhile, other football giants in the country, Simba SC, today face a challenging task against Dodoma Jiji FC in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League match at the Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma.
The tie is crucial for both teams as per the league standings. Simba need victory in order to continue their race of finishing in the second position and secure the chance of competing in the CAF Champions League next edition.
Simba are now third with 57 points from 26 matches and victory will make them tie with Azam FC who are placed second with 60 points from 27 games.
Dodoma Jiji FC also need victory in order to avoid the relegation zone. The team is placed in the 11th position with 30 points from 26 matches and a win will make them sit seventh, replacing Ihefu FC with 32 points.
