Dar es Salaam. Football giants Young Africans (Yanga) are assured of pocketing Sh3.85 billion after retaining this year’s Tanzania Mainland Premier League title.

This amount is the summation of various cash prizes announced before the league kicked off this season.

The Jangwani Street side will pocket Sh500 million from Azam Television as per the contract signed between the latter and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) in May 2021.

The 10-year contract is worth Sh225.6 billion in television rights. Yanga will also be awarded Sh100 million from the league’s main sponsor, NBC. Additionally, Yanga will receive Sh3.1 billion from Azam Media Limited as per their 10-year deal. The crowned champions will also pocket Sh150 million from their main sponsor, SportPesa Tanzania. As per the league standings, Azam FC are likely to finish second as they have so far collected 60 points from 27 matches.

However, to secure that position, the ice-cream makers will have to win all their three remaining matches since Simba also have a chance to finish in that position as they are currently placed third with 57 points from 26 games.

This means that Azam FC and Simba are in battle for the second position as well as to secure the chance of representing the country in the CAF Champions League.

According to records, the runners-up will pocket Sh50 million from NBC and Sh250 million from Azam Media Ltd, while the third-placed team will be awarded Sh30 million from the main sponsor and Sh225 million from Azam Media Ltd.  The fourth-placed team will get Sh200 million. NBC will also award the most disciplined team Sh20 million. Apart from the top four teams, there will be bonuses for all teams except those relegated to a lower division.

Meanwhile, Yanga’s title celebrations have been put on hold as the team focus on the CRDB Federation Cup semifinal match.

Yanga arrived Dar es Salaam on Monday night from Morogoro Region, where they managed to win 3-1 over Mtibwa Sugar to win the Mainland title for the 30th time.

Yanga will be in action on May 19 at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha facing Ihefu FC.

The match is crucial for both teams as the winner will meet the victor between Azam FC and Coastal Union on June 2 at Babati’s Tanzanite Stadium in Manyara Region.
