Yanga to recruit Ugandan midfielder Hassan Ssenyonjo in squad reinforcement for new season

Dar es Salaam. Yanga SC is set to introduce Ugandan player Hassan Ssenyonjo on Wednesday as the Tanzanian soccer giants seek to reinforce their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

The move is part of their efforts to bolster the ranks of the Tanzanian Premier League champions, who are scheduled to begin their training camp on July 1st.

Ssenyonjo, who joins from Uganda's Wakiso Giants, was recommended to Yanga by fellow Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho, insiders say.

The club has been keen on securing a midfielder to complement Aucho, a priority highlighted by Coach Miguel Gamondi. Ssenyonjo is expected to feature in an upcoming friendly match slated for this Saturday.

“The midfielder is expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam later today (Wednesday) via Uganda Airlines, where he will join his new teammates for the friendly match at Mkapa Stadium on Saturday night,” a source privy to the issue confided in The Citizen.

Before finalizing the deal with Ssenyonjo, Yanga had discussions with Yusufu Kagoma from Singida Fountain Gate, who has since signed a two-year contract with Simba.

Ssenyonjo's arrival, backed by Aucho's recommendation, is seen as a strategic move that could lead to a formal contract after Saturday's match, given his defensive prowess and ability to initiate attacks, qualities sought by Coach Gamondi.

Yanga's midfield lineup also includes Jonas Mkude, Salum Aboubakar 'Sure Boy', and Aucho, all pivotal figures under recent coaches contributing to the team's success.

Notable internationals set to feature next season include Djigui Diarra, Yao Attohoula, Maxi Nzengeli, Stephen Aziz Ki, Pacome Zouzoua, and Kennedy Musonda. Departing players include Joyce Lomalisa, Gift Fred, Skudu Makudubela, Augustine Okrah, and Joseph Guede, with Chadrack Boka, Prince Dube, Clatous Chama, and Hassan Ssenyonjo poised as their successors.
