Mwinyi collects nomination forms in re-election bid for Zanzibar's presidency

Unguja. Zanzibar president Hussein Ali Mwinyi has collected presidential nomination forms seeking re-election into the second term.
Dr Mwinyi was approved by his party CCM as the presidential candidate in the elections scheduled for October.
Dr Mwinyi who assumed office following the 2020 General Election collected nomination forms on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) offices.
The ruling party's presidential aspirant in the archipelago who arrived at NEC offices at around 10:45 am was handed over the nomination forms by ZEC chairman, Mr Thabit Idarous Faina.
However, he didn't address the media after receiving the documents, instead he took photographs and promised to address cadres, members and supporters at the Mousetoung Grounds in Unguja this afternoon.

At ZEC offices located in Kilimani Chini Area, the outgoing eighth phase President arrived shortly after the second vice President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar Hemed Suleiman Abdullah.
Despite downpours that impounded Unguja for almost 20-30 minutes after Dr Mwinyi had collected nomination forms, ZEC offices were decorated by green and yellow colours which are official for the ruling CCM.
He left ZEC offices to the Zanzibar's CCM Kisiwandui head offices where he led party supporters in a prayer in front of the grave of the first president of Zanzibar and the founding father of the nation, the late, Abeid Aman Karume.
ZEC timetable shows that candidates collecting nomination forms are required to return not later than 4pm of September 10, 2025 when nomination is expected to take place.
Campaigns are expected to kick off on September 11, 2025.
During this afternoon meeting, Dr Mwinyi who is the son of the second phase President, the late Ali Hassan Mwinyi is expected to unveil why he is seeking re-election for the second term of office.
While the election process intensifies in Zanzibar, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) oversees the election union president, parliamentarians and councillors has concluded the nomination process as political parties have entered the third day of campaigns.
While the CCM presidential candidate Samia Suluhu Hassan and his running mate Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi yesterday commenced campaign tours in Morogoro and Mwanza respectively, candidates from other political parties are concluding their logistics before launching their campaigns.
