Bank of Kigali confirms Tanzania's Massawe as CEO of its tech division

Kigali. The Bank of Kigali, Rwanda's largest bank by assets, has officially appointed Deogratius Massawe as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its technology division, BK Techouse.

Massawe has been serving as the acting CEO of BK Techouse since August of last year. Before this interim role, he spent three years as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the same division.

"I am grateful to share that I have been confirmed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for BK Techouse. Excited for the opportunities that lie ahead in this new chapter," Massawe announced on LinkedIn.

Established in 2016, BK Techouse is a leading force in the digitization of Rwanda's economy, providing innovative technology solutions and services across multiple sectors, including agricultural technology, educational technology, and financial technology. Its digital payment platforms boast a user base exceeding 3 million.

Before his relocation to Rwanda, Massawe accumulated over 14 years of experience in the United States at telecom giant T-Mobile, where he held various positions, including Senior Manager for Product and Technology. He also served as CTO/COO at the ride-hailing company Moovn.

Earlier in his career, Massawe worked as a senior IT consultant for Microsoft and began his career as an intern system engineer at IBM.

Massawe holds an MBA in business administration and health informatics from Georgia State University, along with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of Washington.

His expertise lies in orchestrating digital transformation and pioneering product innovation across diverse sectors, including AgriTech, EduTech, and FinTech.

With his extensive experience and leadership, Massawe is expected to steer BK Techouse towards continued innovation and growth in the rapidly evolving tech landscape of Rwanda.
