Dar es Salaam. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has officially waived visa requirements for Tanzanian citizens entering the country, effective March 20, 2025.
The announcement was made by Tanzania’s ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
The decision follows the DRC’s admission into the East African Community (EAC) in July 2022, further integrating the nation into the regional bloc.
On September 2, 2023, Tanzania had already eliminated visa fees for Congolese travelers, anticipating a reciprocal agreement.
The DRC's latest decision ensures that Tanzanians can now travel to the DRC without needing a visa.
With the removal of visa restrictions, Tanzanians can visit the DRC for business, tourism, and other purposes starting in March 2025.
This change is expected to make travel easier, reduce costs and enhance economic interactions between the two countries.
Trade, investment, and cross-border business activities are likely to flourish, given the strong commercial ties between Tanzania and the DRC.
Furthermore, this decision aligns with broader regional integration efforts within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which aims to ease travel and trade restrictions across the continent.
