Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has articulated her expectations for her state visit to India, emphasising its potential to forge new paths in political and economic development.

President Hassan made these remarks in India on October 9, 2023, during her official welcome and inspection of the military guard of honour.

Following her introduction to India's senior officials, she conveyed to the Indian media that both nations anticipate fostering a strategic partnership through their economic collaboration.

"My country anticipates that the enduring bilateral ties envisioned by our founding fathers, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Mahatma Gandhi, will continue to prosper for decades," she said.

President Hassan's visit to India marks her inaugural trip to the country, commencing on Sunday, October 8, 2023, and concluding on October 11, 2023.

India stands as Tanzania's key trading partner, with the bilateral trade volume currently at $6.4 billion. Foreign Affairs Minister Mr January Makamba commented, "This visit holds great significance for Tanzania, being the President's first visit following the G20 summit. We anticipate a significant announcement regarding the elevation of the relationship between Tanzania and India to a strategic partnership."
