Dar es Salaam. A second cohort of 100 Tanzanian students is set to depart next week for higher education at international universities under the Overseas Universities Agency, Global Education Link (GEL).

The students were formally sent off during a farewell ceremony over the weekend at GEL offices in Dar es Salaam, where they received travel documents, including visas and flight tickets, in preparation for their studies abroad.

Speaking at the event, GEL Managing Director Abdulmalik Mollel encouraged the students to maximise the opportunity, stressing the importance of academic diligence and national pride.

“Go, study hard, and achieve your academic goals. Your parents have made sacrifices for your education—make them proud by succeeding and returning to serve your country,” Mollel said.

He also highlighted an ongoing partnership between GEL and the Tanzania Tourism Board (TTB) aimed at promoting the country’s tourism sector and attracting foreign investment. As part of this initiative, students studying abroad through GEL will be trained as tourism ambassadors, equipped with knowledge of Tanzania’s natural attractions and investment opportunities.

“The education these students gain abroad will empower them to promote Tanzania globally—not only as a tourist destination but also as a hub for investment,” Mollel added.

TTB representative Nassoro Garamatatu echoed the call, urging students to uphold Tanzanian values and actively enhance the country’s image abroad.

“Tanzania is home to world-renowned national parks such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Manyara, and Mikumi. These are vital sources of foreign exchange, and you can play a role in attracting visitors by showcasing what your country offers,” Garamatatu said.

He also encouraged the students to build international networks and use their influence to invite global visitors, including prominent figures such as royalty and international travellers.

“TTB is committed to organising tours for you to experience the country’s tourism firsthand. The better you know your own country, the better you can represent it internationally,” he added.

This second group of students departing under the 2025/2026 academic year intake will pursue studies in countries including China, India, Malaysia, Cyprus, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Poland
