Dar es Salaam. The government has warned against unauthorised fundraising activities, clarifying that all contributions for victims of the Kariakoo building collapse will be collected through a dedicated disaster relief account.

The Kariakoo building collapsed on Saturday November 16, 2024, and as of last night, 13 people had been confirmed dead, with 84 others injured.

Rescue operations are ongoing for the third day since the tragic incident occurred.

Speaking on Monday November 18, 2024, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament and Coordination), Dr Jimm Yonazi, urged the public to refrain from conducting unofficial fundraising activities.

"We must avoid collecting contributions from anyone outside the official disaster fund, where all donations are gathered to provide assistance to the intended beneficiaries," Yonazi said.

He stressed that financial aid must follow legal procedures and be properly coordinated.

“All those wishing to contribute should direct their funds to the special disaster account held at the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), which is managed by the Prime Minister’s Office,” he said, providing the account number: 9921159801.

"This is the only authorised account in the country for collecting financial assistance," he added.

Regarding the ongoing rescue efforts, Yonazi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring no one is left behind.

“We will not stop until we reach the last person,” he said.
