Dar es Salaam. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Sports, Gerson Msigwa, has urged football stakeholders in the country to invest in developing talented footballers for the nation’s benefit.

Msigwa made the appeal during the official launch of the One Tanzanite Football Academy at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana last weekend.

He noted that while businessmen and women typically invest in ventures that yield quick profits, the mission and vision of One Tanzanite Football Academy are distinct in their long-term commitment to the development of the sport.

“In our conversation, you mentioned your desire to invest in and develop football in the country. I am pleased with the initiative, and the government will support your efforts,” said Msigwa.

He stressed that the investment aligns with the dreams and vision of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, to advance sports nationwide. The government supports efforts by private sector stakeholders to invest in the Culture, Arts, and Sports Sector.

He said One Tanzanite Football Academy will cater to young people aged six to 16 in preparation for the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Earlier, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) Secretary General, Kidao Wilfred promised to assist the academy in football development.   “There is no shortcut in football development. I commend One Tanzanite for its establishment, and TFF will work together with you to attain the highest development in football in the country,” said Kidao.

For his part, the academy’s managing director, Agapiti Manday, outlined the academy’s mission and objectives.  “One Tanzanite Football Academy was registered with certificate of registration No. NSC 13713 on February 27, 2024, by the National Sports Council (NSC).

Our academy aims to develop the next generation of football stars who can compete on national and international stages. With experienced coaches, we are committed to offering high-quality training and mentorship to our young athletes,” said Manday.

Manday expressed satisfaction with the progress made since the academy’s inception.  “We started with only six young players, and now we have about sixty.

Our goal is to enhance the quality of football in Tanzania by developing well-trained and skilled players who can compete at higher levels as we prepare to host AFCON in 2027.

We also encourage physical activity and healthy living among the youth, contributing to the overall well-being of our society.   Additionally, we aim to create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth through sports-related activities and events.

By instilling values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, we aspire to mold responsible and proactive citizens,” he stated. The launch event featured a grand opening ceremony, a football match, and an opportunity for attendees to interact with the young athletes, coaches, and supporters of the academy.

Manday also commended Asas Group, CRDB Foundation, GSM Group, Vodacom Foundation, and Genesis Schools for supporting them.
