Randeep gets off to a flyer at Tanga motorsport event

Dar es Salaam. Birdi Rally Team driver Randeep Birdi has started the National Rally Championships (NRC) with a bang after emerging as the winner of the Tanga rally event.

Randeep, with navigator Manmeet Birdi driving a Mitsubishi Evolution 9, recorded a time of 1:15.54 hours to beat six drivers who competed in the 155-kilometre race and collect 34 points.

"I am happy to win the event; it was a tough event as each driver targeted the top position. This is just a start; I am now focusing on the next event," said Randeep.

In last year’s Tanga Rally, Randeep earned 24 points. He also scored 60 points in the Automobile Association of Tanzania (AAT) event.

The event saw Arusha Region driver Gurpal Sandhu placing second after recording a time of 1:16.49 while driving a Mitsubishi Evolution 10 to collect 27 points. Sandhu, who was navigated by Dave Sihoka, was behind Randeep by 0.56 seconds. In the 2023 edition of the NRC, Sandhu placed fourth after collecting 72 points.

Also in the top three is Manveer Birdi from the Fuchs Titan Rally Team, who clocked 1:33.24. Birdi, with navigator Ravi Chana, was 16 minutes and 35 seconds behind the second finisher. The renowned driver scored 26 points in the event. In the 2023 NRC, Manveer placed third with 84 points.

The driver in fourth place was Yusuf Akida from the Yusuf Akida Team, with navigator Nabeel Mawji, who clocked 1:35.53 driving a Subaru Impreza. Akida collected 20 points.

The event also saw Vishal Patel's team, comprising driver Vishal Patel and navigator Rumeet Manji, finish in fifth place after clocking 1:44.38. The team garnered 19 points.

The event also saw Charles Bicco and navigator David Matete of Amapiano Motorsports fail to finish.

Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Hussein “Makoroboi” Moor, Chairman of Usambara Motorsports, said the race was thrilling and commended all supporters.

“This was the first event of the National Rally Championships (NRC) according to the Automobile Association of Tanzania’s (AAT) calendar. We are happy to have staged it successfully,” said Moor.
