Dar es Salaam. Mainland Tanzania giants, Young Africans (Yanga) on July 29, 2024 humiliated Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 to win the Toyota Cup 2024 tournament.

This is Yanga's second victory in South Africa after a 1-0 win against TS Galaxy in the Mpumulanga International Competition.

In their first match, Yanga lost 2-1 against Bundesliga side FC Augsburg.

The match at the Toyota Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein saw Yanga recording the first goal through Prince Dube in the 24th minute, following a good pass from Maxi Nzengeli.

Kaizer Chiefs players, under former Yanga head coach Nasreddine Nabi, made efforts to equalize, but Yanga’s defenders Ibrahim “Bacca” Hamad, Dickson Job, Nckson Kibabage, Kouassi Attohoula Yao, and goalkeeper Djigui Diarra cleared all dangerous balls.

Yanga, who used quick pace to break Kaizer Chiefs' defense, celebrated the second goal through Stephane Aziz Ki in the 45th minute after he was set up by Duke Abuya.

Kaizer Chiefs’ Ranga Chivaviro made efforts to score in the 54th minute, but Yanga’s goalkeeper Diarra saved the attempt.

Yanga celebrated the third goal in the 56th minute through Clement Mzize after he was set up by Dube, and later Aziz Ki scored the fourth goal in the 62nd minute following mistakes made by a Kaizer Chiefs defender.

The Jangwani Street giants will leave South Africa today ahead of the August 4 match on Mwananchi Day. The match will be used to officially unveil the team’s new players and celebrate the 89th anniversary of the club.

Yanga may face TP Mazembe of DR Congo or Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club on Mwananchi Day.

According to information received by The Citizen, officials of both teams have shown a good response ahead of the match, although they have not yet given a final answer.

A source indicated that TP Mazembe is more likely to feature due to the recently established cooperation between the two teams.

The source also mentioned that they initially requested CSKA Moscow of Russia, but due to league commitments, the team will not be able to come to Tanzania for the event.

“Preparations for Mwananchi Day are going well, and we will soon announce our programme. Wydad Athletic Club have not yet given a final answer, although they have shown a positive response like TP Mazembe, so we are waiting for their final answers.

If both teams agree to participate, we will decide on the costs for each team. As you know, we have to cover all expenses for any team that participates,” said the source.

Yanga’s new players include goalkeeper Abubakar Khomeiny, Clatous Chama, Chadrack Boka, Prince Dube, Jean Baleke, Aziz Andambwile, Shadrack Boka, and Duke Abuya.

The new recruits join other notable players such as Stephane Aziz Ki, Djigui Diara, Kennedy Musonda, Kouassi Attohoula Yao, Khalid Aucho, Bakari Mwamnyeto, Dickson Job, Ibrahim Hamad, Mudathir Yahya, and Clement Mzize.

Also on the list are Farid Mussa, Salum “Sure Boy” Abubakar, Jonas Mkude, Kibwana Shomari, Shekhan Ibrahim Hamis, Aboutwalib Mshery, and Dennis Nkane.
