Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Mainland football champions, Young Africans (Yanga), are set to face South Africa's Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow, July 28, 2024, at 4 pm in a special match for the Toyota Cup.

This highly anticipated match will take place at Toyota Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein and features two coaches with notable histories in Tanzanian football.

Nasreddine Nabi, Yanga's former coach, led the team to two titles and the CAF Confederation Cup final. On the other hand, Yanga's current coach, Miguel Gamondi, succeeded Nabi and brought Yanga to the CAF Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in 26 years, since 1998.

This historical context adds an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming match. In 1998, Yanga reached the quarterfinals for the first time since the inception of the current CAF Champions League format.

This achievement remains a significant milestone in the club's history, making Gamondi’s recent success even more noteworthy.

Beyond the coaches, this match will also carry an element of rivalry. Yanga defeated Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 during their 88th-anniversary celebration, known as Mwananchi Day, in 2023. This previous victory has set the stage for a highly competitive rematch.

Several of Yanga's star players will feature in the match, including Bakari Mwamnyeto, Dickson Job, Stephane Aziz Ki, Djigui Diarra, Kibwana Shomary, Dennis Nkane, Salum “Sure Boy” Abubakar, and Aboutwalib Mshery.

Other key players such as Jonas Mkude, Clement Mzize, Mudathir Yahya, Ibrahim “Bacca” Hamad, and Farid Mussa, all of whom were previously coached by Nabi, will also participate.

Yanga's head coach, Gamondi, expressed confidence in his team's preparation.

"Our game against Kaizer Chiefs will be exciting and competitive, especially considering Chiefs have a new coach, and every player will have a chance to showcase their abilities. Our preparations are progressing well, and we believe we will have a great match," said Gamondi.

He also stressed the importance of their trip to South Africa in preparation for the new 2024/2025 season.

"Playing against the Bundesliga team FC Augsburg is part of our efforts to promote our club across Africa and globally," he added.

This international exposure is crucial for Yanga as they aim to establish themselves as a dominant force in African football.

Gamondi mentioned that his players are continuing to gel, especially after winning their second match against TS Galaxy 1-0. This victory has boosted the team's morale and confidence ahead of the Toyota Cup match.

The match between Yanga and Kaizer Chiefs promises to be a thrilling encounter, bringing together history, rivalry, and top-tier talent on one of Africa's most prestigious football stages.
