Ramovic bids farewell to Yanga after 81 days, joins CR Belouizdad

What you need to know:

Ramovic, who joined Yanga on November 15, 2024, has now become the first coach under club president Hersi Said to leave before completing three months in charge in history. His assistant, Mustafa Kodro, is also set to depart alongside him.

Dar es Salaam. In a shocking turn of events, Young Africans (Yanga) head coach Sead Ramovic has resigned after just 81 days at the club, securing a lucrative deal with Algerian giants CR Belouizdad. The news has left Yanga members and fans in disbelief, as they had high expectations for the German tactician.

Ramovic, who joined Yanga on November 15, 2024, has now become the first coach under club president Hersi Said to leave before completing three months in charge in history. His assistant, Mustafa Kodro, is also set to depart alongside him.

The former TS Galaxy coach had replaced Argentine Miguel Gamondi, who was dismissed following a string of disappointing results in the NBC Premier League.

Gamondi, who took over in 2023, faced intense scrutiny after back-to-back defeats put Yanga’s title ambitions in jeopardy.

Unlike Gamondi’s departure, which was marked by internal pressure, Ramovic’s exit was amicable. He mutually agreed with Yanga’s leadership to terminate his contract, allowing him to accept the lucrative offer from CR Belouizdad.

The club has now launched a search for a new head coach, with the team temporarily placed under the guidance of Abdihamid Moallin.

Moallin, who was appointed as Yanga’s Technical Director on November 18, 2024, will now serve as the interim head coach. The former KMC coach is expected to stabilize the team as they seek a long-term solution.

Ramovic’s resignation came as a shock to Yanga’s players, who were informed of his decision during an evening training session ahead of their KenGold Cup match to be held tomorrow on February 5, 2025. A sources within the club revealed that efforts were made to convince him to stay, but the financial offer from CR Belouizdad was too tempting to resist.

“We did our best to persuade the coach to remain at Yanga, but the offer he received was too attractive. In the end, we had to respect his decision and part ways on mutual terms,” a senior club official told The Citizen.

A short but eventful tenure

Despite his brief time at the club, Ramovic made an immediate impact. Under his leadership, Yanga demonstrated a more structured style of play, with tactical discipline being a notable improvement.

His tenure saw the team register key victories, although it was too short to bring about significant long-term changes.

Yanga’s management now faces a crucial decision in appointing a new head coach who can maintain stability and guide the team towards its domestic and continental ambitions.

The search for a replacement is expected to be swift, given the competitive nature of the league and upcoming CAF Champions League fixtures.

What next for Yanga?

With Moallin taking temporary charge, Yanga fans will be eager to see how the team responds to Ramovic’s sudden departure. The club’s immediate priority will be to ensure continuity and maintain their push for silverware.

Potential candidates for the head coach role are already being considered, with Yanga’s leadership keen on securing a coach who aligns with the club’s ambitions.

The new coach will have the responsibility of continuing Yanga’s dominance in Tanzanian football and making a mark on the continental stage.

Meanwhile, Ramovic’s move to CR Belouizdad presents a new challenge for him in Algeria. The club, one of North Africa’s football powerhouses, has been keen on strengthening its technical bench as they aim for success in the CAF Champions League.

For Yanga, this unexpected exit serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of football. While fans and players may be disappointed, the focus now shifts to finding a new leader who can drive the team forward. The coming weeks will be crucial for the club as they embark on another managerial transition.

Stay tuned for updates as Yanga moves forward in their search for a new head coach.
