Simba SC beat Yanga in the Dar derby
Dar es Salaam. Simba Sports Club on Sunday emerged 2-0 winners against defending champions Young Africans SC (Yanga) in a hotly contested Dar es Salaam derby at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Two first half goals by Enock Inonga and Kibu Dennis set the Msimbazi giants on their way to a sweet victory against their arch-rivals.
It was defender Enonga who out jumped the Yanga defense to power in a header that beat hapless Yanga goalie Diarra in the second minute of a game that is usually unmissable date.
Yanga tried to string a couple of passes but their usually lethal marksman Fiston Kalala Mayele missed a couple of them.
The equation got complicated for the Jangwani team in the 32nd minute when Kubu Dennis robbed Yanick Bangala in the middle of the field to race towards goal before hitting a stupendous shot that nestled in the top right hand corner.
This was the first time that Simba defeated Yanga in two years with the Msimbazi outfit playing second fiddle in most outings.
The win now takes Simba to 63 points whereas Yanga remains on top of the log with 68 points having won 19 and 22 games respectively having played 26 games each.
This was the 110th game between these teams in the Premier League since 1965, of which Yanga has won 38 while Simba has won 32 and 40 matches have ended in a draw.
Both teams will now switch their focus to the CAF Champions’ League and the Confederations Cup quarter finals.
