Idd, the leading lady golfer in Tanzania, carded 78, 74, and 70 over 54 holes at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi to win by two strokes and clinch the title for the fifth time.

The Arusha Gymkhana Club member also won the championship in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

She recorded 222 strokes to edge out Kenya’s Channele Wangari, who recorded 224 strokes. Wangari recorded 76, 74, and 74 strokes in the competition, which featured 88 other competitors.

Apart from Tanzania and the host country, Kenya, the event also featured golfers from Uganda.

Third place was won by Kenya’s Naomi Wafula, who recorded a total of 227 strokes.

She scored 76, 78, and 73, while fourth place was won by Joyce Wanjiru, who carded 76, 81, and 75, while Mercy Nyanchama, also from Kenya, finished fifth with a total of 235 strokes after recording 77, 83, and 75 strokes.

Apart from Idd and Elias, the tournament also featured two other Tanzanian golfers Rachel Moshi and Loveness Mungure, both from Kili Golf Club.

Mushi finished 41st with a total of 288 strokes, while Mungure was placed 47th with a total of 295 strokes.

Speaking on the phone yesterday, Idd said the competition was very tough, and she thanked God for giving her the title for the fifth time.

Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Gilman Kasiga commended Idd for the victory. Kasiga said they are very proud of the golfers who represented the country very well.

Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) president Queen Siraki showered praise on Idd and her three compatriots for representing the country in the competition.

"I’m happy for Madina and Vicky. Loveness and Rechal also did their best, as they are still gaining and will soon be at the top," said Siraki.
