Although Coca-Cola products have been available in Tanzania for more than six decades, it is in the past 30 years, since the establishment of Coca-Cola Kwanza, that the company has become deeply embedded in the local economy.
Dar es Salaam. The government has reiterated its commitment to supporting local industries in order to spur investment and create more jobs for Tanzanians. The minister of Industry and Trade, Dr Selemani Jafo, made the remarks during a recent visit to Coca-Cola Kwanza’s plant in Dar es Salaam as the company celebrates 30 years of operation in the country.
Dr Jafo, who toured the facility to inspect its production processes, technological investments and employment impact, commended the company for its contribution to Tanzania’s economy. “I am very impressed by the level of investment and modern equipment here,” said Dr Jafo. “Coca-Cola Kwanza supports a large number of jobs both directly and indirectly.”
Although Coca-Cola products have been available in Tanzania for more than six decades, it is in the past 30 years, since the establishment of Coca-Cola Kwanza, that the company has become deeply embedded in the local economy.
Coca-Cola Kwanza’s general manager, Mr David Chait, said the company employs mostly Tanzanians, sources materials locally where possible, and reinvests in communities.
“Our mission is not just to sell drinks. We want to grow together with the people of Tanzania by supporting local businesses and creating jobs,” he said. Mr Chait highlighted the company’s focus on water conservation, waste reduction and tree-planting initiatives, which build on the environmental programmes initiated by Dr Jafo when he served as Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment).
He further noted that Coca-Cola Kwanza supports women, young people and persons with disabilities through small business financing, skills training and education initiatives.
“As we mark 30 years in Tanzania, we are focused on the future. We want to grow in a way that builds a stronger and more sustainable economy for all,” said Mr Chait.
