The rescue operation, which has been ongoing since the collapse, has brought hope as seven more survivors were pulled from the debris today, climbing from 70 of yesterday.
Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, confirmed the successful rescue efforts, revealing that those rescued were found alive in the basement of the collapsed structure.
"These seven individuals who were rescued today came from the basement, and relatives have confirmed that they were in contact with them, which is a sign of success in the ongoing rescue mission," Chalamila said, stressing that the rescue operation has not been halted.
Despite the progress, Chalamila emphasized that the rescue efforts are still in full swing, with no halting of operations in sight.
"The rescue work is continuing, and we are hopeful that more survivors will be found," he added.
The tragic incident, which took place in the heart of Dar es Salaam's bustling Kariakoo district, has resulted in the loss of five lives.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, with emergency services working tirelessly to search for any remaining survivors trapped under the rubble.
