Dar RC: Kariakoo collapse fatalities not due to suffocation

Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, has noted the fatalities were not due to suffocation but caused by injuries sustained from the collapse of the high-rise building in Kariakoo.

He explained that the victims died from being struck by falling debris, crushed under the building, or injured by steel rods.

Chalamila made the remarks on Sunday, November 17, 2024, as rescue operations continue following the collapse on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

"Up to this moment, there are no reports of deaths caused by suffocation, according to the immediate updates we have received," Chalamila said.

Chalamila also noted that rescuers are maintaining communication with individuals still trapped under the rubble.

Efforts to sustain them include supplying oxygen, water, and glucose, while they are being urged to remain calm and patient as rescue operations proceed.
