Eight arrested in connection with attempted abduction of Dar businessman Tarimo

Dar es Salaam. The police have arrested eight individuals in connection with the attempted abduction of Deogratius Tarimo, a businessman from Kibaha, which occurred in Kiluvya, Ubungo, Dar es Salaam, on November 11, 2024. The incident was widely shared on social media, sparking public concern.

The arrest was confirmed by the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Jumanne Muliro, in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 4, 2024.

According to the statement, the suspects, who were arrested at different locations including Dar es Salaam, Songea in Ruvuma, and the Mbingu Mlimba area in Morogoro, are accused of conspiring to abduct Tarimo. The police also recovered a Toyota Raum vehicle that was used in the crime. Initially, the vehicle was registered under a fake number plate, T 237 EGE, but further investigation revealed its true registration number to be T237 ECF.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Bato Bahati Tweve (32), a boxer from Kimara Bunyokwa and Songwe Mbozi; Yusuph Abdallah (32), from Mbingu, Mlimba in Morogoro; Fredrick Juma (31), a resident of Kibamba; and Nelson Elimusa (24), a taxi driver known as Msela, from Mbezi Luguluni.

The other suspects are Benk Daniel Mwakalebela (40), aka Tall, from Mbezi-Makabe and Kyela Ipinda, Rusungo, Mbeya; Thomas Ephraim Mwakagile (45), aka Baba Mage, from Bunyokwa and Kyela Ngonga Ndiali, Mbeya; Anitha Alfred Temba (27), from Mbezi Mwisho; and Isack Mwaifani, known as Boxer, from Kimara Tembo Salanga and Bujonde Isanga, Kyela, Mbeya.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining safety in the region and are continuing efforts to arrest other individuals involved in criminal activities. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have vowed to take stern action against those responsible for such crimes.
