Dar es Salaam. The new season of the National Rally Championships (NRC) is set to launch next month, beginning with the Tanga Rally Championships.

The event, known as the Advent Construction Tanga Rally, will take place on July 13 and 14 and is expected to feature more than 10 drivers from Tanzania and Kenya.

Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, Hussein “Makoroboi” Moor, Chairman of Usambara Motorsports, mentioned that the rally will cover approximately 155 kilometres, with seven drivers already confirmed.

Moor listed the drivers as Randeep Birdi, Manveer Birdi, Gurpal Sandhu, Akida Machai, Aliasger Fazal, Shand Abbas Fazal, and Jamal Nirmal.

He added that they anticipate participation from drivers in neighbouring countries like Kenya, particularly those based in Mombasa.

“We are currently in preparations for the event and expect many top drivers to compete. This is the first event on the Automobile Association of Tanzania’s (AAT) calendar. Drivers will vie for national titles and points, making it an exciting event,” said Moor.

In the previous season of the NRC, Ugandan driver Yassin Nasser emerged on top with 94 points from three events.

He accumulated 30 points in the Iringa Motorsport event, another 30 points in the Mount Usambara event, and concluded with 34 points from the recent AAT event held in Iringa Region.

Randeep Birdi secured second place with 84 points, earning 24 points in the Mount Usambara Motorsport event and 60 points in the AAT event. Manveer Birdi followed closely with 84 points, while Gurpal Sandhu of Arusha claimed fourth place with 72 points. Notable driver Kelvin Taylor secured fifth place with 43 points.
