Dar es Salaam. Tanzania football giants Simba SC have suffered a disappointing end to the season, failing to qualify for the CAF Champions League for the first time in six years.

Despite a 2-0 victory over JKT Tanzania today, Simba's third-place finish in the Mainland Premier League wasn't enough.

Simba, regulars in the Champions League since the 2018/2019 season, ended the league tied on points (66) with Azam FC, but were edged out on goal difference.

This setback means they will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, alongside Coastal Union of Tanga who finished fourth.

Simba's last appearance in the Confederation Cup was in the 2021/2022 season after their Champions League exit.

Simba's Information Officer, Ahmed Ally, acknowledged the disappointment but offered optimism for the future. "We fell short of our goals this season," Ally admitted after the match. "There's no point dwelling on it. We accept our shortcomings and are already preparing for the Confederation Cup. While it's not our usual level, we will focus on strengthening the squad and coming back stronger next season."
