Six more Zanzibar presidential hopefuls collect nomination forms, seek 1,000 sponsors

Unguja. Six candidates vying for the 2025/30 Zanzibar presidency have begun collecting nomination forms at the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) offices, each confident in their ability to serve residents if elected.

On Sunday, 31 August 2025, forms were picked up by candidates from NCCR-Mageuzi, ACT-Wazalendo, Chama Cha Kijamii (CCK), SAU, Ada Tadea, and UMD. Each candidate received guidance on completing the forms correctly and meeting submission deadlines.

NCCR-Mageuzi

The first to arrive, at 8:40 am, was Laila Rajab Khamis of NCCR-Mageuzi, accompanied by senior party officials. She said, if cleared and endorsed by voters, her top priority would be improving healthcare across Zanzibar and creating employment opportunities for youth.

ACT Wazalendo

Next was ACT-Wazalendo candidate Othman Masoud, who arrived at 9:55 am with his wife and senior officials in a purple campaign vehicle. He pledged to empower Zanzibar residents with better choices and reiterated the party’s longstanding opposition to early voting, describing it as illogical.

Chama Cha Kijamii (CCK)

Aisha Salum Hamad of CCK arrived at 11:48 am. She said women are ready to compete and succeed and vowed to outline her party’s policies once officially cleared.

SAU

SAU candidate Ali Mwalim Abdalla arrived at noon, highlighting his constitutional right to run while promising to reveal campaign priorities after ZEC approval.

Ada Tadea

Juma Ali Khatib said he aims to serve as First Vice President and to continue initiatives started by President Dr Hussein Mwinyi, with a focus on youth technology training to reduce unemployment.

UMD

UMD candidate Mohamed Omar Shaame, arriving at 3:00 am, said his priorities would include providing free electricity to 100 units, salary support for people with disabilities, and free telecommunications services to support economic development.
